چکیده

During cruise SO 58 of the FRG research vessel Sonne in 1988, surface sediments were collected from the deep waters of the Sulu Trench (Philippines) for organic geochemical investigations. The purpose of geochemical analyses of surface sediments is to obtain information on the nature and origin of gaseous hydrocarbons detected in these sediments and from this information to estimate the hydrocarbon potential of the Sulu Trench. In this paper molecular composition, gas concentrations, and stable isotope analyses, including both carbon and hydrogen, are used to characterize light hydrocarbons in marine surface sediments of the Sulu Trench. In addition, sulfate concentrations of interstitial waters and the redox potential of the sediment support gas geochemical interpretations.

Biological marker geochemistry of selected oils and possible source rocks from central Alborz Basin

Surface oil seeps from Alasht, Lapur and Jenesem share many compositional affinities including distributions and concentrations ofnormal alkanes, terpanes and steranes. These oils also show many similarities with that of Jurassic sediments (Shemshak Group, KlarizFormation) systematically sampled from the Galandrud Coal Mine. Recent geochemical studies in this area indicated that theShemshak Gro...

Statistical Analysis of Sedimentology and Sedimentary Geochemistry Data of Aeolian Sediments in Khuzestan Province

The Khuzestan plain is located in south western of Iran and is covered about 3.9 percent of the country area. Khuzestan plain is mostly covered by the Quaternary deposits. The thickness of these deposits exceeds 300m in some areas .Sedimentology and geochemistry of sand dunes producing centers are not only important for determining sedimentary and geochemical features of the particles possible ...

Organic Geochemistry and Paleoenvironments of Deposition of the Middle Jurassic Sediments from the Tabas Basin, Central Iran

In an attempt to reconstruct the paleoenvironments of deposition for the Middle Jurassic Baghamshah formation, samples collected from six outcrop sections along the Shotori swell were subjected to detailed geochemical analyses. Bulk geochemical and biological marker data indicate a logical trend of the variation of organic input, salinity, and oxicity within Baghamshah paleoenvironments across ...

Reconstruction of the Paleo-Environmental Ancient Settlement Using geochemistry Analysis Case study: Tal-e Malyan (Anshan) of Fars Province

Introduction Geoarchaeology is defined as the application of geological concepts and methods to solve archaeological research questions (Butzer, 1971, 1982; Waters, 1992; Pollard, 1999; Goldberg and Macphail, 2006).Urban geoarchaeology is focused on site accumulation, collapse, weathering and erosion, These may document settlement growth and decay, as well as environmental history, posing a mu...

Geochemistry of the Paleocene Sediments from SW Ahar: Implications for Provenance, Tectonics and Source Rock Weathering

The mineralogy and geochemistry of Paleocene shales and interbedded siltstones in the southwestern of Ahar town (NW Iran) were studied by optical microscopy, XRD, SEM, XRF, and ICP-MS techniques. The mineralogical composition, mainly characterized by calcite, quartz, feldspar, dolomite, muscovite, magnesiohornblende, chlorite, illite, montmorionite, palygorskite, and koninckite, suggests relati...
